Holding a Zoroastrian embroidery workshop in Taft

According to the public relations report of the General Department of Cultural Heritage, Tourism and Handicrafts of Yazd Province, Abdul Majid Arabi said on Saturday, August 22: “Zoroastrian embroidery workshop or authentic needlework of Yazd Zoroastrian women was held with the presence of 15 interested people.”

The acting head of the Yazd Province Handicrafts Department added: “In this training workshop, which was held for a total of four hours, the students were introduced to the various designs and roles of this handiwork whose history dates back to before Islam.”

Arabi pointed out that the purpose of holding this workshop was to educate, promote and develop traditional embroidery, and continued: “Zoroastrian embroidery is a type of sewing with very fine colored silk threads on finely woven fabrics, and the colors used in this handmade art are bright and vivid like red. It is white and green.

According to him, various motifs are used in Zoroastrian needlework, plant motifs such as tree of life, cypress tree, bent cypress, carnation flower, animal motifs such as peacock, rooster, chicken, hooded and fish or geometric motifs such as square and circle are among its motifs. These patterns are sewn very finely on the fabric, so that the stitches are hardly visible.

This educational workshop was held in one of the eco-tourism residences of Taft city and at the end, the participants were awarded a certificate of completion of the handicraft course in Zoroastrian embroidery.
